log cabin quilt block

                                                            Log cabin quilts are easy...
Just decide what size you want your strips

Then choose your fabric, I choose 2 1/2 inch strips
                                        and black and white fabric

cut one 2 1/2 inch square then,
place one 21/2 inch strip by it

put on top of the square

sew it together

uh oh...I skip to the nest strip
after cutting off the first strip you cut it evenly with your trusty scissors
two strips down

block with the two strips
please ignore the strings

I jumped ahead and sewed a strip of black and then cut it

then continue with the next strip.
you get the idea, I hope and again I didn't iron these

my finished block
The basic pattern
I didn't make mine as big
now that you know how to make the log cabin

I only made four blocks
there is several ways your blocks can be assembled together
above is one way

or maybe this way

or this way

or maybe like this

as you can see , several different ways

each way you put your blocks together are name something different..

I hope you all
ENJOY!

Flying Geese Quilt pattern

I am going to do some of the basic patterns from this book

And some that I think are similar to a couple of the basic patterns...

                                    Flying geese

the pattern

first sew the left side, of course after cutting the patterns out, duh

then sew the right side....and press
(I didn't do the press thing)
I know I should the block would look nicer
Here is the insert from the book
What a completed quilt would look like
                                                       nice, huh!

different versions
by using certain colors of the fabric doing your blocks
how much you will need for making a quilt.

Well next week...hmmmm.
maybe I will keep it a surprize

Simple 9-patch quilt pattern

I have decided to post a quilt pattern once a week...I will try and post once a week anyway......I am no great quilter, but come from a family of quilters. My mother has quilted( pieced), both grandmothers quilted....But maybe piece quilting ..I will get better along the way....I will try and post pics along each step...

so here is the first quilt block for the year...The simple 9-patch

First off decide on what size to make your squares
then cut out a bunch of them
these are 3 inch size

next arrange them the way you want

notice that you can use scraps from another project
these are 4 inch

or if you see a cheater quilt and don't like the way the blocks are arranged
cut the blocks out and arranged them like you want

next step
sewing together

take each middle square and place on top of the left square

then sew them together, you can sew them individual if you choose, but I like this way
I have done it the other way as well

now lay the blocks back down
most of the time the key point is to use a iron to iron them flat,
but I really don't always do that....I know I should do it but
sometimes I can press it down with my fingers

I like to sew these together as well

now to sew the block together

I place the middle row on top of the top row
and sew it together

the middle and top row sewn together

I don't always get the corners where they need to be
oh well Can`t be perfect

I take the bottom row and place it on top of the ones
                                                   I just sewn

the finished block

I know it`s still not perfect, but I like it, and I hope you all like it as well

I know eventually I will be doing more 9-patch blocks once I start going thru some more of my patterns or my moms, We both love patterns, and recipes.

Next pattern is flying geese

update on afghan

..
I have gotten to this point of the afghan, this all done with scraps of yarn
that I had lying around....I put the squares together and then crocheted around it
This is where it stands right now....

I have started on another crochet project , I will try and get a pic of it. using only scrap
yarn. I have not abandon this granny square project, but just simply put it on hold
for right now....I would like to get some different patterns for the grannies other then what is
          for this pattern....
I was thinking about making a quilt block once a month.....since this crochet grannies really
              isn't getting anything looks....
